Italy, Canada and Sweden jostle to host 2026 Winter Olympics

Three nations have emerged as candidates for the hosting rights for the 2026 Winter Olympics – Italy, Canada and Sweden.

The city of Calgary, in the Canadian province of Alberta, is bidding to host, while a joint bid by Milan and Italian resort, Cortina d’Ampezzo is on board as well as that of Sweden’s capital, Stockholm.

All three bids will be assessed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the cities will be visited in March and April 2019 to assess a number of factors – the level of preparedness, accommodation, security among others.

The winner of the bidding process will be announced after a voting process on the 23rd of June, 2019.

The 2022 Winter Olympics will be hosted by Beijing, China.
