Intelligence failure and conspiracy have been identified as major causes of the continuous banditry and kidnappings across Nigeria.
The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Kwara State, Salman Jawondo (SAN), disclosed this in an interview with reporters in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
He advised the Federal and State Governments to go beyond physical security and embrace active intelligence gathering to prevent crime.
Salman Jawondo is of the view that intelligence gathering will go a long way in fighting the ongoing war against bandits and kidnappers across the country, maintaining that intelligence gathering is more cost-effective and ensures the prevention of crime in society.
He also advised the Federal Government against any form of negotiation with bandits, rather, they should be wiped off the country hinting that those who also have information about bandits but refused to offer government should be arrested.
Meanwhile, Jawondo also stressed the need for moral uprightness and a proper attitude towards materialism which he said if well embraced, would curb the appetite for crime in people.
