The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Monday began training of state election officers and heads of operations from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory as part of preparations for the smooth execution of the 2019 general elections.

The training, described as a standard practice ahead of the poll, is to expose officials to emerging trends in smart card reading as well as the latest innovation in information and communication technology that will be deployed during the voting exercises.

The forum also reviewed flaws experienced in the 2015 elections so as to guard against recurrence in 2019.

The workshop kick-started the technical details of the preparations for the elections.
