The Indian Technology Minister, Ravi Shankar whilst praising foreign social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook has warned that should they want to continue to operate in India, they will have to abide by their Laws when it comes to content regulation.

This is a spill off from the crossfire between the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, and Twitter’s leadership over taking down some 1000+ accounts it believed spread misinformation about the farmers’ protest.

According to the Indian Government, the instructions were not fully complied with and as such advised that actions may be taken to sideline the app. India’s technology ministry has already begun calls for politicians to join the app’s local rival, Koo, in a bid to exert some authority over social media use.

The Indian government has been facing a serious backlash from a new farming bill that according to the protesting farmers will further distress their means of livelihood and put more power in the hands of investors.

It is a bill that they have demanded is repealed and protests have been ongoing for quite some time now to have the laws reversed. The government has however argued that the bill is progressive and is indeed for the benefit of the agricultural sector in India.
