Meng Wanzhou contests extradition
Meng Wanzhou

The Chief Financial Officer of Huawei, Meng Wanzhou and daughter of a multibillionaire, Ren Zhengfei, who was arrested in 2018 based on a bank fraud charges warrant from the United States over breaking U.S Sanctions laws via Huawei’s alleged dealings with Iran, is now challenging her extradition to the United States.

Although Meng has on multiple occasions voiced her innocence, she was later freed on bail and confined to house arrest in Vancouver, Canada. By March 2019, the Canadian Authorities granted the United States the eprmission to extradite the embattled CFO.

She has since been fighting the charges through appearances in court. Huawei had made available all its dealings with Iran to the HSBC – Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited.

Her lawyers have maintained that there is no shred of evidence that Huawei was involved in any illegal dealings with Iran and as such the case submitted to Canada is as written “so replete with intentional and reckless error”

Her lawyers are pushing for a stay of the extradition as it violates her human rights. The hearings – Vukelich Hearings are expected to run till Wednesday to help the Judge decide whether the accusations are valid through detailed examinations.
