Hackers of Colonial Pipeline, DarkSide shut down Operations

The cyber attackers behind the Colonial Pipeline which the largest gasoline pipeline on the US east coast to shut down on the 7th of May and eventually caused widespread fuel shortages for six days across the United States have announced plans to shut down operations.

Colonial Pipeline reportedly paid the sum of $5 million to restore operations. On realizing the widespread effect their activities had on quite a decent number of people, the criminal group had apologized to target smaller operations instead.

However, the group suddenly announced plans to shut down after losing access to a public part of its infrastructure. The group also announced plans to release decryption tools for all the companies it hacked in the past but were unable to pay.

It is unclear if the company is truly turning a new leaf or has been cornered after access to its funds on Bitcoin have been seized and servers shut.
