Residents in the four communities of Ebonyi State, southeast Nigeria that were attacked by suspected AK-47 carrying herdsmen, are counting their losses even as security agencies on Wednesday, beefed up surveillance in the areas.

The gunmen who raided the communities in Ishielu Local Government Area, on Monday evening, reportedly killed no fewer than 15 persons, destroyed many homes and valuables.

Mourners have continued to gather in the areas, with residents alleging that the attack was conspired by local herdsmen.

The visit of Governor Dave Umahi in some of the affected communities late Tuesday seemed to have restored immediate calmness in the communities, as he assured the people that the identity of the perpetrators had been uncovered.
