The Abia State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a student of Marist Comprehensive Academy, Uturu when gunmen attacked a commuter bus along Ihube, in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State, southeast Nigeria.

But the police said operatives are on the trail of the attackers, assuring that efforts are on top gear to fish them out.

On Saturday evening, suspected hoodlums attacked a passenger bus killing the college student, Ede Donald, while three others were injured.

In an interview, the Police Public Relations Officer, Geoffrey Ogbonna told reporters that the Police Command has moved into action to arrest the perpetrators of the crime.

Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, strongly condemned the attack, describing the death of the college student, as sad.

In a statement released by the Abia State Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi Kalu, the Governor directed the State Commissioner of Police, Janet Agbede, to liaise with her counterpart in Imo State, to swiftly arrest the hoodlums and bring them to justice.

The Commissioner, however, denied social media reports that 10 students of the Abia State University, Uturu, were abducted during the incident.

The Abia State government spokesman noted that the university authorities have confirmed that no student of the institution was abducted, calling on members of the public to be careful of fake reports.

Recall that early this year, along the same Ihube – Okigwe road, a student of the Abia State University, Uturu among other passengers in a bus were kidnapped by unknown gunmen, but had since regained freedom.
