Four suspects presumed to be assassins from now deceased Jovenel Moïse’s many antagonists have been killed in a gun battle with law enforcement and two others remain on the run. The police chief, Leon Charles disclosed that a man-hunt has ensued since the gruesome murder of the Haitian president.
Jovenel Moïse was shot dead after multiple attempts in his private residence in Port-au-Prince, his wife, Claude Joseph was also terribly wounded. The city’s airport remained shut after the unfortunate incident took place and a certain stillness washed over the city as the realization of his death sunk in.
The question on every mind remains… who is responsible for Jovenel Moïse’s murder? Known for having many enemies, home and abroad, it is believed that whoever must have orchestrated his distasteful exit must indeed be powerful.
Preliminary findings show that the assassins spoke English, suggesting foreign interference. It will not be the first attempt on the president’s life as he earlier this year ordered the arrest of 23 persons in February on similar grounds.
Although Jovenel Moïse led a very cantankerous regime with increased rates of violence and kidnapping at an all-time high, there is now a power void in Haiti as his expected stand-in passed away to the coronavirus barely two weeks away and the next elections are due for September.
