Two officers of the Katsina State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, have lost their lives, during a foiled attack by bandits on Kadobe village located between the Katsina-Jibya highway.

According to a local source who pleaded anonymity, the bandits stormed the village in their numbers at about 11:pm and in their usual way, shot sporadically, making the villagers scamper for safety.

He hinted that trouble started when the bandits came on a mission to rustle animals in the village, which they had long targeted but cited the Immigration post, which they had to open fire on, to avert a repel.

The source also said that as a result, two of the officers whose names are withheld were gunned down, but their bodies and arms were recovered by the Command.

Another source within the Command, who is a friend of one of the deceased officers, said his late friend was from the Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, while the other was from Jigawa State.

He also hinted that the officers also showcased their firepower prowess, making the bandits suffer some casualties, as many of them were killed, while others sustained injuries.

The bandits were also said to have gone away with their dead ones, as they escaped into the forest due to the reinforcement by the Command, in collaboration with other sister security agencies.

No abductions were reported.

It was also gathered that the bandits had already surrounded the village long before they attacked, as attested to by a source, but refused to report their presence to the security operatives.

Peace and normalcy have since been restored to the area, as the source said the police and the military were seen patrolling within and around the village, while many of the villagers have returned alongside some of their animals.

The police and the state Command of the NIS are yet to make official statements over the incident.
