Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has signed into law a re-enacted bill for the protection of private properties to ensure that order is maintained in the acquisition of land and other related matters in the state.

The bill which prohibits the unlawful activities of Community Development Agencies and other groups whose operations hinder development was assented to in Government House, Benin City along with three other bills.

The four bills which had scaled through the three readings at the floor of the Edo State House of Assembly were brought to Governor Obaseki for assent.

The Governor appreciated the state legislature for the commitment and due diligence in the discharge of their duties.

He said the bills which are crucial to the enhancement of the state will go a long way to improve the well-being of the people.

The Governor commended the House for the prompt passing of the bill which had to do with the harmonisation of the retirement age of staff of Polytechnics and other Colleges of Education.

He noted that the executive arm of government had noticed the gaps in the Private Property Protection Law 2017 after operating for several years and the need to amend the laws in 2021 to deal with those who forcibly take other people’s properties.

Governor Obaseki also emphasised the importance of having an agency to carry out the responsibility of maintenance as the state government moves to meet the infrastructural needs of the residents.
