Officials of the Gombe State Internal Revenue Service have lent their support to the Federal Internal Revenue Service, FIRS, on the controversial collection of the value-added tax from states, stating the present setup would ensure equity.
The state’s internal revenue service disclosed this while receiving the award as the sixth fastest state in terms of revenue generation.
The Gombe State Internal Revenue Service added the current stance taken by the Lagos and Rivers State governments would lead to multiple taxations which would be hurtful to the Nigerian taxpayer.
The talk continues as raging controversy on the Value-Added Tax does not abate as states are beginning to take sides.
The officials of the Gombe State Internal Revenue Service called on the Federal Government through the FIRS to be transparent in their dealings and ensure equity in the distribution of earnings.
