As Nigerians grapple with the ongoing resident doctors strike, the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN, has directed its members nationwide to begin strike from Tuesday, April 6, following the expiration of a 21-day strike notice on Sunday, April 4.
A statement by JUSUN President, Marwan Adamu, said the action has become inevitable following the inability of the government to implement financial autonomy in the judiciary in line with the Constitution and other extant laws.
The JUSUN President said the strike was billed to begin on Monday, April 5, but due to the Easter public holiday, it is now to begin on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, while noting that all courts would be totally shut until and unless the government does the needful.
The directive to judiciary workers nationwide to begin strike was contained in a circular dated April 1, 2021, and signed by JUSUN General Secretary, Isaiah Adetola, where members across the country are been asked to comply with the directive by the National Executive Council of the union.
The Judiciary staff strike is coming weeks after the parliamentary staff began a strike over the non-implementation of financial autonomy in state Houses of Assembly.
