Nigeria’s Minister of State for Power, Goddy Jedy-Agba, Thursday declared that the establishment of electricity meter test stations is a necessity and a launchpad for Presidential initiative and a directive on ease of doing business in the country.

The Minister spoke at Enugu, southeast Nigeria, during the commissioning of the Nigerian Electricity Management Service Agency, NEMSA, national meter test station, and inspectorate field office.

Commissioning the project, the Minister of State for Power noted that the facility will improve the efficiency and prompt response to utilities and consumer mastering services requests and needs in the southeast region of the country.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, William Alo, the Nigerian Power Minister noted that the opening of the Centre will offer the NEMSA a greater opportunity to discharge her statutory functions, help to generate direct, and indirect employment opportunities in the zone.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NEMSA, Peter Ewesor, thanked the relevant stakeholders in the power sector for their unflinching supports.

It is observed that before now, electricity meters for use in the southeast zone were taken to Port Harcourt for mandatory tests but the establishment of a national meter test centre in Enugu State will enhance the availability of testing and certification of electricity meters and instruments in the zone.
