A former presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Adamu Garba, has filed a fundamental human rights suit asking the Federal High Court, Abuja, to compel the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, to shut down Twitter in order to prevent it from operating within the Nigerian cyberspace.

The applicant, in the motion of notice, brought pursuant to section 34, 35,41, and 43 of the 1999 Constitution, alleged that the Chief Executive Officer of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, is sponsoring the  #EndSARS protesters in the ongoing protest.

He emphasised that Dorsey sponsored the #EndSARS protesters by tweeting the #EndSARS hashtag and urged protesters who seem to be having difficulties in securing a viable platform for raising funds for the protest to consider using bitcoin.

He, therefore, wants an order of perpetual injunction restraining Dorsey and #EndSARS protesters from sponsoring and staging any other protest in any part of the country as it is an infringement of his fundamental human rights.

Garba is also asking for an order directing President Muhammadu Buhari and the Director-General of the Nigeria Security Civil Defence Corps to take measures to stop Dorsey and #EndSARS protesters from carrying out protest with the use of force that is reasonably appropriate in the circumstances of the protest.
