The President-General of the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs and the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Saad Abubakar, has declared Sunday, July 11, 2021, as the first day of the month of Dhul-Hijjah 1442.

The declaration was made in a statement by the Chairman, Sultanate Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Waziri Junaid.

The Sultan congratulated all Muslims for witnessing the beginning of the last month of Hijra, which signifies the count down to the Arafat day on July 19, 2021, and Eid-ul-kabir celebration on 10th Dhul-Hijjah which coincides with July 20, 2021.

The 2021 Arafat would not be witnessed by over two million Muslims as a result of the Hajj restrictions due to the Covid-19 virus. Only 60, 000 residents of Saudi Arabia would be allowed to perform this year’s Hajj.

However, Muslims across the world will attend Eid congregations while observing the Covid-19 rules and observe the symbolic slaughter of rams on Sallah day.
