A Pharmaceutical in Egypt has signed a first of its kind deal with the Russian makers, who came up with the Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine, Russian Direct Investment Fund, to produce the same locally.
The pharmaceutical, Minapharm currently leading in Egypt’s recombinant DNA technology is expected to provide over 40 million doses of the Sputnik vaccine in Cairo.
The Russian Direct Investment Fund has disclosed that an immediate transfer of technology will begin immediately. The CEO of the RDIF, Kirill Dmitriev welcomed the development touting it as a huge contribution in the fight against the pandemic.
Thus far, the Sputnik V vaccine has been touted as having 97.6% efficiency against the coronavirus. It’s performance against the newly emerging variants have not been confirmed.
