Edo State Government says it will be taking over the construction of a link road and drain at Lawani Crescent in Igarra, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of the state and has also ordered the arrest of the contractor handling the project which was sponsored by a Member representing the Federal Constituency, Peter Akpatason.

The announcement was made by the state’s Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, when he embarked on an inspection tour of the shoddy construction work on the road which attracted huge public outcry when a resident lamented the terrible work done by the contractor on social media.

A viral video was done by an indigene of Igarra in the Akoko-Edo Local Government Area about the shoddy work done on the Lawani Crescent in the locality.

The video elicited widespread condemnation from well-meaning Nigerians who decried the poor job done by the contractor handling the road project sponsored by the Member representing Akoko-Edo Federal Constituency.

Rattled by the development, Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, directed his Deputy to embark on a fact-finding mission to the area.

The Deputy Governor met with residents who are expectedly unhappy with the road construction designed to fail.

Shaibu decried the work and announced measures the state government will be taking to ensure that such inferior construction is not done elsewhere and that the people of Igarra have good link roads and drainages.

Shaibu urged citizens to see government projects as their own and endeavour to hold their representatives accountable for quality service delivery.
