Actor Dwayne Johnson has responded to criticism regarding the Maui wildfire fund he shares with television producer Oprah Winfrey.
Last month, the pair launched the People’s Fund of Maui, a charitable initiative to directly assist those affected by the devastating fires, with an initial joint contribution of $10 million.
Although it might have seemed well-intentioned, many social media users criticized the billionaire and multimillionaire for asking the public for funds and suggested they donate more instead.
The actor then addressed the negative commentary and said he honestly understood why people got upset.
Dwayne also shared great news about the fund, stating that survivors and families have begun receiving their first round of funds, which he found incredibly moving and gratifying. He thanked them for their incredible messages and expressed his gratitude for their support.
