Following the appointment of the current NCDC Director-General, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu as the WHO Lead for Pandemic & Epidemic Intelligence hub in Berlin as well as the Assistant Director for Health Emergency Intelligence, Dr Ifedayo Morayo Adetifa.
Dr. Adetifa, an Epidemiologist and Consultant Paediatrician, is an Associate Professor of Infectious Diseases Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). He is also a Clinical Epidemiologist at the Kenya Medical Research Institute(KERMI) and will take over the reins of affairs when Dr. Ihekweazu’s tenure ends effectively on the 1st of November, 2021 at the NCDC.
The Nigeria Center for Disease Control is responsible for the nation’s response to infectious disease outbreaks and it has managed to do so effectively earning the trust of Nigerians. It is believed and expected that Dr. Adetifa will help push the parastatal to new heights.
