Demanding sexual favours now illegal in Uganda

Uganda’s Parliament has passed a new law that allows for anyone who commits a sexual offense to be registered in a national sex offenders’ register.

Anyone who is convicted of such crimes will be mandated to disclose such information when they are seeking employment or seeking any form of position that places children in their care.

In addition, street harassment, sexual assault, and other related offences in a professional setting including indecent public exposure, sexual favours and cat-calling are now culpable crimes under the new legislature.

Anyone found culpable is liable to serve at least seven years in prison, and digital culprits are not exempt. Those who involve in revenge pornography or share explicit content on social media are also liable.
