As part of flood control measures, the Delta state government is demolishing all illegal structures and stalls built on water channels in flood-prone areas of the state.

The demolition exercise which began in the Warri South Council Area of the state has left petty traders not just crying for help but also confused on how to readjust and relocate their businesses.

For the traders, this moment was no doubt a difficult one since they will have to relocate their businesses somewhere else.

Michael Tidi, who is the Chairman of the Local Council Area in Warri South where the demolition exercise was being carried out told reporters that most of the stalls were not just built illegally but also blocked water channels thereby constituting a major cause of flooding.

While most of the traders were trying to adjust to the reality of not continuing with their businesses where they have been used to, they are hopeful and prayed that the government will pay attention to their plights.

The government, however, said that the demolition of all illegal structures would be carried out in the 25 council areas of the state.
