FG to decide fate as second lockdown phase elapses

Nigeria to ease the second phase of lockdown on Monday, June 1 as announced by the President, Muhammadu Buhari two weeks ago. Delegations of the  Presidential task Force led by Boss Mustapha, the Chairman of the tasks force on Sunday, May 31 met with the President at the Aso Rock Villa to submit a report of the second phase of the lockdown as Buhari prepares to address the nation on the next phase of the lockdown. On Sunday 31 May, Nigeria passes the 10,000 marks for the number of cases of the epidemic.

The nation now has 10,161 recorded confirmed cases of the virus. 3007 recovered persons and 287 people who succumbed to the disease. In Nigeria, 312 Indians were recently repatriated using Air Peace Airlines, a private Nigerian Airline flew back these Indians in a 10 hour long non-stop flight. This was confirmed on Sunday, May 31 by Air Peace Chief operating officer, Oluwatoyin Olajide.
B777 aircraft with registration number 5N-BWI left the Lagos State Murtala Mohammed International Airport yesterday for Cochin International Airport, Kerala.

Oluwatoyin Olajide thanked the Indian government for working with the Airline and the Nigerian Government for supporting the airline with special flights during this critical time. The Airline on Thursday, May 28 also flew 301 Chinese nationals to their country and on Saturday, May 30, brought back 268 Nigerians from China.

In a television broadcast on Sunday, May 31, Kayode Fayemi, the governor of Ekiti State made known that residents can go about their work and businesses through the five working days Monday-Friday from 6:00 am – 8:00 pm. Civil servants in the state from Grade level 8 upward are to start work while those below Level 8 to remain in their houses till further notice. Fayemi also disclosed that the State is looking into the reopening of places of worship, schools, and big markets.
The curfew in the state remains from 8:00 pm to 5:59 am.

Another frontline worker died from the epidemic in Jigawa. This was confirmed by the Nigerian Medical Association in the state. Nasir Adam a 36-year-old medical doctor succumbed to the virus after arising complications. 20 other medical doctors have reportedly died from contracting the virus in Jigawa. Jigawa has 270 recorded Coronavirus cases.9 COVID-19 patients recently recovered from the disease in Abuja. This was confirmed by Musa Bello, the Minister of FCT via his twitter page today June 1.

FCT now has 182 total number of recovered patients.
