COVID-19 Updates in Nigeria: Edo, Ondo to hold elections

Amidst the Coronavirus pandemic, the Edo state and Ondo state governments want to hold the forthcoming gubernatorial election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, said that the state governments will work alongside the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, and the Presidential Task Force for COVID-19 to ensure voters comply with the protocols established to curb the spread of the virus.

Jigawa State Commissioner for Health, Abba Zakari, disclosed that 32 COVID-19 suspects have been released from the isolation centre in Jigawa after results for the COVID-19 disease returned negative twice.

This increases the total number of discharge patients in Jigawa to 143.
The state has confirmed a total of 2,411 cases of COVID-19 disease.

The Oyo State government has disclosed their plans to include the test for the COVID-19 disease to the routine diagnosis for patients for hospitals within the state.

The plan is part of the state’s strategy in conducting 10,000 COVID-19 tests within the next two to three months among its residents.

According to Taiwo Adisa, the Chief Press Secretary, CPS, to the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, 2,000 people have already been tested for the COVID-19 disease in the state.
