Building Bridges Initiative

A sitting of five High Court Judges has ruled against the Building Bridges Initiative seeking to amend the constitution. The Bill was deemed irregular, illegal, and unconstitutional.

The initiative was orchestrated by the sitting president, Uhuru Kenyatta and his well known opponent, Ralia Odinga who has now turned an ally. The two who claimed the amendment seeks to expand the executive arm of the government thus making the political system more inclusive.

The initiative included creating a prime minister position, adding 70 constituencies, and a new affirmative action clause that would allow for 300 unelected members of parliament.

According to the judges, the president violated the constitution by initiating the process that ought to have been initiated by citizens. They also ruled that the president had failed the integrity test and as such could face a personal lawsuit in a televised ruling that spanned four hours.
