Uber is set to cut down 600 jobs which are about 25% of its workforce in India.

This was confirmed by Pradeep Parameswaran, the ride-hailing company President for India and South Asia.

According to him, this is a trying period for the company. Laid off staff would be given two months 2 weeks of pay and medical insurance.

Just recently, Uber announced a cut down of 6,700 positions as the company is negatively impacted by the outbreak of the pandemic.

At the beginning of May, in India, the ride-hailing company swung into operation in 50 cities as most part of the country is under an imperative lockdown.

The nation is a huge market for the ride-hailing company in Asia. Uber earlier sold off a huge part of its business in the continent to Chinese rival DiDi and Singapore’s Grab.

Uber’s rival company, Ola cabs, an Indian ride-sharing company, recently sacked 1,400 of its workers after being hit with the realities of the pandemic disease.

At the beginning of the year, Uber in a presentation to investors referred to its ride-hailing business in India as the number one in the country with over 50% market share.
