World-renowned journalist and CNN’s Chief International Presenter, Christiane Amanpour revealed to the world yesterday that she has, like millions of women across the globe, been diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer.
She disclosed as much to her loyal audience while explaining her 4 weeks away from the big screens. Amanpour, is considered one of the best-known journalists in the world, due to her extensive coverage of internaional conflicts.
She revealed that while she had a successful surgery, she will now commence months of chemotherapy to get the cancer cells into remission. She also took the opportunity to encourage women to get regular screening excercises, get checked as early detection is always key to a higher survival rate. Read her statement below:
“I’m telling you this in the interest of transparency but in truth really mostly as a shoutout to early diagnosis.” She said she wanted to “urge women to educate themselves on this disease; to get all the regular screenings and scans that you can; to always listen to your bodies; and of course to ensure that your legitimate medical concerns are not dismissed or diminished.”
She will continue to lead the Amanpour sessions Mondays through Wednesday whileBianna Golodryga will fill in for her towards the weekends.
