President Muhammadu Buhari has formally requested the House of Representatives approval for confirmation of Chief of Army Staff, Major General Faruk Yahaya.
The request was contained in a letter from President Buhari and read on the floor of the House by Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Tuesday.
Major-General Yahaya was appointed following the death of the immediate past Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru, in a plane crash along with 10 other military officers.
The request for Maj Gen Yahaya’s confirmation comes amid heightened security challenges in the country.
