According to the Brazilian Ministry of Health, the number of confirmed cases of the COVID-19 disease in the country has surpassed 500,000.

As of Tuesday, June 2, 2020, Brazil confirmed 529,405 cases of the COVID-19 disease and has recorded 30,046 deaths.

Brazil has now confirmed the second-highest number of COVID 19 cases worldwide after the United States of America.

The country now has the highest number of COVID-19 cases in South America and the fourth-highest death toll in the world.

The health authorities have set up makeshift hospitals in football stadiums.

Despite the continuous increase in confirmed cases and deaths, the dispute between the state governors and the President, Jair Bolsonaro, continues.

The President continues to insist that the governors should relax the lockdown measures and reopen the country’s economy, even going as far as standing with protesters.

Bolsonaro insisted that COVID-19 is nothing but a “mild flu.”
