Gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed a Mobile Police Inspector and abducted 23 persons in Ungwan Maje and Ungwan Laka, in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

According to an eyewitness, Billy Ibrahim, the armed bandits came in large numbers with heavy weapons, shooting sporadically.

The gunmen first attacked Ungwan Maje, where they abducted 16 persons, the majority of whom were women and children.

They later unleashed terror on Ungwan Laka, where the Mobile Police Inspector, Joshua Markus, who came to visit his family from Rivers State was killed, before abducting seven persons, including the wife and daughter of the deceased.

The eyewitness said that the bandits also attacked retired military personnel, Arewa Sanoma, who narrowly escaped with his family.

The gunmen, however, succeeded in burning down his car and one motorcycle.

The body of the police inspector has been deposited at the Saint Gerald mortuary.

The Kaduna State Police Command is yet to confirm the report.
