Zamfara State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, is calling on the government to convoke a stakeholders security summit which will help the citizens to contribute on how best to tackle banditry and other forms of insecurity.

The call is following the expiration of the two weeks ultimatum the association gave to the government to provide security in and around health facilities across Zamfara State, to protect health workers from being attacked or kidnapped.

The NMA Zamfara State chapter believes that the ongoing offensive against insecurity is everyone’s business hence the need for the government to convoke a stakeholders security summit to brainstorm and fashion out a workable and lasting solution to the menace.

The NMA Chairman, Dr. Mannir Bature, raised the concern over the negative impact banditry activities are having on the economic, social, and political life of the people.

He said that health facilities are important places, which need to be secured as people go there to seek medical care.

He pointed out that if the facilities are left insecure, they will portend grave danger, not only to health workers but to the patients as well.

It could be recalled that bandits invaded the Dansadau General Hospital in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State a few weeks ago and abducted a health attendant and caregiver.

The incident prompted the NMA Zamfara State chapter to draw the attention of the government on the need to provide adequate security to health facilities in the state.
