Christie’s recently auctioned off an art piece titled “Everydays – The First 5000 Days” that exists digitally exclusively for $69.3 million. The piece by Mike Winkleman popularly referred to as Beeple becomes the third-highest auctioned piece ever achieved for a living artist.

Beeple’s reaction to the mindblowing sale on Twitter was a simple – holy f**.”

The work which started at an initial auction price of $100 ultimately hit the over $60 million benchmark after being contested by over 33 active bidders. The work captured the images the artists had been posting online every single day since 2007 and was created as a nonfungible token (NFT).

It is also the very first NFT sold by Christie’s. The sale created a lot of awareness for the budding digital art scene which many traditional collectors have not been open to for quite some time.

Beeple’s pieces have repeatedly been gaining some major traction. Another of his piece – Crossroads, another NFT sold for $6.6 million on Nifty Gateway. More and more art enthusiasts are embracing the world of digital art with some selling of the actual original pieces to ashes.

While NFT’s are not poised to replace traditional pieces in the nearest possible time. A new path to fame just opened for many artists indeed.
