Arsenal lost their first game of the 2020/21 season in a 3-1 loss away to Liverpool.
Before the game, Arsenal won the last two encounters against Liverpool. One of the games was the 2020 FA Community Shield which Arsenal emerged victors.
For the umpteenth time, both teams headlined matchday three as they entertained fans with Monday night football. Despite two wins in their last Premier League games, questions had been asked of Liverpool due to their defensive frailties.
Arsenal went into the game as favourites as they started the season in great fashion. The Gunners secured two victories in a row but also earned praise for their team spirit and gameplay.
However, the 231st encounter between the duo ended in favour of the Merseyside Reds. Alexandre Lacazette gave Arsenal the lead in the 25th minute but Liverpool responded and went 2-1 up by half time.
Goals from Sadio Mane, Andrew Robertson, and debutant Diogo Jota helped Liverpool maintain their winning start to the season. Arsenal fans are now clamouring for the signings of Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar.
The Gunners lacked proficiency in front of the goal. Also, the creativity, dynamism, and quality in the depth of the squad made them fall short against.
The inclusion of Partey and Aouar would help to solve some of these issues but the club has only eight days to sign both players.
