Infamous Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau who has been rumored to have died multiple times but suddenly resurrects has now been confirmed truly dead following an exclusive audio file from AFP.
While the terrorist group is yet to comment on Shekau’s demise, the Nigerian army claims to still be investigating the veracity of the news.
According to a rival terrorist group from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) who split from Boko Haram in 2016, they urged Shekau and his team to repent due to his indiscriminate targeting of Muslims and women suicide bombers.
Shekau who refused to surrender reportedly chose to detonate himself, to the delight of the ISWAP members who are looking to absorb his fighters and territory.
If successful, Nigeria faces a bigger insecurity challenge in the coming years facing a more unified terrorist association.
