ADAMAWA CAN CELEBRATES CHRISTMAS WITH PRISONER

The Adamawa State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has celebrated this year’s Christmas with a service for inmates at the Yola prison.

Leading the prayer service, Adamawa State Chairman of the association, Most Reverend Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza,  said prisoners have the right to vote and that government should endeavour to make provisions that will enable inmates exercise their franchise

Mamza also emphasized that some prisoners are on awaiting trial on false accusations and do not deserve to have their fundamental rights stripped from them.

The special Christmas service which had in attendance over 100 male inmates and about 20 female prisoners was emotion laden although the prisoners were visibly in high spirit as they performed the praise and worship songs.

A former Commissioner in the Adamawa State Government who is serving a ten year jail term for corruption,  John Elias, spoke on behalf of the inmates where he appreciated the gesture extended to them in prison by the fellowship adding that the confinement gives them the opportunity to correct or be corrected.
