Biden and Putin to meet today over U.S Russia Relationship

The United States has disclosed that at least 10 Russian Diplomats will be expelled from its country while multiple businesses and people will suffer sanctions such as blacklistings over Russia’s interference in the presidential election of last year and the hacking carried out on federal agencies, read more about it here.

In a statement at the White House, Biden was quoted as saying “We cannot allow a foreign power to interfere in our democratic process with impunity.” Although Russia claims no responsibility for the cyberattacks, the U.S reportedly linked the intrusion to a Russian Intelligence Agency, SVR.

32 individuals were also sanctioned for their involvement in the recently concluded presidential election for spreading fake news. The international relations between America and Russia has continued to suffer, though it was very strained in the beginning.

Putin was one of the last world leaders to congratulate Biden on his win and Biden had also expressed his less than adulatory opinion of Putin in an interview with ABC News, especially with the continued clampdown on Alexei Navalny, a political opponent of Putin, who was almost killed by a nerve gas recently and remains in jail.

Biden claims that even though the United States could have gone farther with the imposed sanctions, he wants a stable and predictable relationship with Russia

We could have gone further but I chose not to do so. I chose to be proportionate.”

US President, Joe Biden

Russia, who has for the longest time denied all allegations by the United States, on the other hand has released a statement warning the United States of retaliatory measures in the shortest possible time.

The principle of reciprocity for such matters has not been cancelled, but everything will depend on the decisions made by the (Russian) head of state

Their views categorically do not coincide when it comes to creating mutually beneficial relations and taking each other’s interests into account
