The Zamfara State government says it will reinstate the disbanded Civilian Joint Taskforce, CJTF, and Volunteer Group popularly known as Yansakai but on the condition that each would produce three sureties.

The Chairman of the Committee on Security and Prosecution of Bandits in Zamfara State, Abdullahi Shinkafi, made this known in an interview with reporters on how to sustain the gains being recorded in the ongoing offensive against the bandits in the state.

When Bello Mohammed assumed office as the Governor of Zamfara State in 2019, he outlawed the Civilian Joint Taskforce, CJTF, and the Volunteer Group, popularly known as Yansakai.

He disbanded them because some of them were responsible for the violent conflict between the Fulanis and Hausa people in Zamfara State.

But now, his administration is contemplating restoring CJTF and Yansakai.

Before Governor Mohammed’s administration began, they were assisting the security agencies leading their operatives to the hideouts of the bandits in the state.

The Chairman of the Committee on Security and Prosecution of Bandits in the state said the state government would reinstate CJTF and Volunteer Group after thorough screening, and each will come with three sureties to ensure they have good character.

He said the reinstatement of the CJTF is to help the security operatives in the frontline to flush out bandits and their collaborators in Zamfara State so that residents can go about their lawful businesses.

Shinkafi called on the people of the state to come together as one, to fight crimes and criminalities in the state and the country as a whole.

He noted that the residents of Zamfara State have demonstrated that they are good citizens and want peace to be restored in the state.
