World Bank appoints Makhtar Diop as IFC Managing Director and Executive VP

The World Bank has announced that Makhtar Diop will be serving the role of Managing Director and Executive Vice President of the International Finance Corporation.

The International Finance Corporation is an arm of the World Bank that encourages the growth of the private sector in developing economies.

Makhtar will be required to deepen and energize the IFC’s strategy of creating markets and mobilising private capital speedily as well as increasing the support for climate and gender investments in fragile countries.

Makhtar Diop is Senegalese and served as the former Minister of Economy and Finance, he is currently the World Bank’s Vice President for Infrastructure, he also served as Vice President for the Africa Region prior to his current role amongst many others

Makhtar has been honoured as one of the 100 most influential Africans in the world. He will commence his role by March 1st, 2021.
