Every hour, over 18 Nigerians join the death toll of Tuberculosis, with an average of about 432 lives lost on a daily basis, as reported by the World Health Organization (WHO).

These statistics place Nigeria among the 30 countries with a high TB burden, being the second highest in Africa.

From the WHO report, active TB spreads to about 47 Nigerians every hour, of whom 7 are minors. Nigerians account for 67 percent of the world’s undetected TB cases.

Lagos state is estimated to have the highest TB cases in the country, which is largely influenced by its high population density, as confirmed by the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Mr Jide Idris.
