The deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase has said that the 9th Assembly will ensure that it does not let Nigerians down, especially the common man.
The deputy speaker also reiterated his resolve to advancing the improvement of the living standard of Nigerians who always braced obstacles to come out and vote during elections.
Wase gave the assurances while playing host to the Buhari/Osinbajo Social Media Support Group who paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
While thanking the group for the visit, Hon. Wase assured them of the leadership’s readiness to partner with the group, saying that “the 9th Assembly’s focus is Nigeria and Nigerians”.
He said left to him, the group shouldn’t be bothered about negative information, but that the concerns should be how to positively touch the common man on the street.
He said: “when it comes to election, the common man is always on hand to deliver on their civic duties”, recalling a campaign incident that happened in Jos, the Plateau state capital during the presidential campaign where overwhelming crowd of Nigerians trooped out to welcome President Muhammad Buhari.
He said those common Nigerians gave up something and made sacrifices to be there on that day based in their believe in the ability of the president to positively impact their lives.
Wase pledged his support for the group and said that “putting the right information out there is for the good of everyone, especially the children yet unborn”.
He promised to do his best under the circumstances, adding that the House leadership would not let Nigerians down, and that “it’s not about party or religion, but the good and progress of Nigeria”.
Wase also noted that the House just passed a resolution urging the federal government to mop up excess grains in the market so as to store same for rainy days and at the same time encourage more production.
“It goes to show that Nigeria is producing more food than the population can actually consume which is why there is excess. But government will continue to promote local food production.
Our covenant with Nigerians is to make their lives better”, he said.
Earlier, the Editor-in-Chief of the group, Babatunde Adejumo told the deputy speaker the group was in the House to “congratulate him on his elections both as a returning member and as the deputy speaker of the most populous nation in Africa”.
He said it’s the believe of the group that the election that brought both President Buhari and Prof. Yemi Osinbajo to office was free and fair.
“We of this group wish to congratulate you on your reelection back to the House and also winning election as deputy speaker of the House of Representatives of the most populous nation in Africa.
“Your capacity to play this role has never been in doubt, because your record in the public service until joining politics speak for themselves.
“We’re also aware that Mr president is primed to champion a new order in the polity and we are also aware that agents of destabilization are hell bent on frustrating what has been put in motion for the benefit of Nigerians.
“We therefore seek your support to counter all the negative narratives being put out there with facts that enemies of Nigerians are seeking yo obscure”, he added.
