The World Health Organization (W.H.O) has given the coronavirus a new name. The announcement was made on Tuesday, 11th of February 2020. The virus popularly known as coronavirus will no longer be called coronavirus but it will now be called COVID-19.

The virus was first named coronavirus because the virus was reportedly shaped like a crown according to a scientist. Crown in Latin is called “Corona” – that’s how it got its name.

The 2019n – coronavirus was first identified in China. It initially occurred in a group of people with Pneumonia who have been associated with the live animal and seafood market in the city of Wuhan, the city the virus was first identified.

The disease then rapidly spread from the sick people to their family members, friends, colleagues, health care workers etc. About 43,000 cases of the virus have been confirmed worldwide with the death toll of about 1115 individuals.

Experts have said that the best-known measure to prevent the virus is to wash your hands when you cough or sneeze or someone coughs and sneezes on you or around you. Also, try to wear a face mask which would likely reduce the risk of becoming infected with this dangerous and deadly virus.
