UTME mass failure: Education Stakeholders Urge Concerted Effort To Prevent Future Occurrence

The need for synergized effort at preventing the further dismal performance of students in internal and external examinations has again been stressed.

Some education stakeholders who took this position in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, while reacting to the mass failure of candidates in the last Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, also called on the government to go further than paying lip service to educational development in Nigeria.

Many Nigerians are yet to come to terms with the mass failure which was recorded in the last Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination in the country.

Following a failure rate of 86 per cent in the last university entrance examination, blames is now being traded back and forth amongst, the Joint Admission Matriculation Board, parents, and schools.

While various reasons have been adduced for the unfortunate scenario, including malfunctioning computers and the Covid 19 pandemic restrictions, stakeholders agree there is an urgent need for concerted effort to be taken to address the downward slide in the performance of students during examinations.

Nigeria’s education system has in the last decade being challenged by increased insecurity, infrastructure deficit, and other factors that have kept the government at loss on what to do.
