Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has appealed to Bayelsans and residents of Yenagoa, the state capital, not to see the ongoing urban renewal policy as witch-hunting but rather as an effort to enhance the aesthetics of the capital city.

The Governor spoke at the 36th Executive Council Meeting of his administration in Yenagoa.

A bulldozer was seen wreaking havoc on illegal sheds and other market structures within the Yenagoa metropolis. It is part of the urban renewal policy of the Bayelsa State government in ensuring that Yenagoa was given a facelift befitting state capital.

However, the development has not gone down well with some residents mostly traders who have also embarked on peaceful demonstrations.

Calming down frayed nerves of the protesters, Governor Diri noted that the policy was not meant to witch-hunt anybody but to actualize the dream of a modern Yenagoa City.

The Governor warned that the rules and regulations of town planning must be complied with by all, as there was no going back on the urban renewal programme.
