Bundesliga 2 outfit, Union Berlin edged Stuttgart on away goals rule in the German Bundesliga play-offs to earn promotion to the Bundesliga for the first time in their history.
Stuttgart finished 16th in the Bundesliga to feature in the playoffs, playing a goalless draw in the first leg away at Berlin but got relegated after drawing 2-2 at home.
It marks the second time in four seasons that Stuttgart has been relegated while for Union Berlin, they are the first team to beat a top-flight side in the playoffs since 2012.
Since the inauguration of the Bundesliga in 1963, Union Berlin will be the fifth team from the German capital to play in the top division. Berlin will also be the only German city to have two sides in the Bundesliga next season.
