A United Nations report has called for the investigation of top military leaders in Myanmar for genocide in Rakhine state and crimes against humanity in other areas.

The UN report which is based on hundreds of interviews, says the army’s tactics were “consistently and grossly disproportionate to actual security threats.”

The report which criticised Myanmar’s de facto leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, for failing to intervene to stop the violence, identified six senior military figures that should go on trial.

It further called for the case to be taken to the International Criminal Court-ICC.
