After bouts of illness which had President Beij Caid Essebsi on admission at a Military hospital last month, The Tunisian president has finally given up the ghost at 92.

Essebsi was the first freely elected president in the African Country in 2014 after an uprising across the region.

The Country has declared 7 days of mourning to honour the oldest President in the world, to stand in his stead, Mohamed Ennaceur will take over until permanent measures are taken.

The now late Beij Caid Essebsi was a lawyer who studied and trained in Paris after which he functioned in the capacity of an Interior Minister and later, the Speaker of Parliament.

The now-deceased had in a statement before his demise stated he won’t be contesting in the elections and allegedly said it was time to ‘open the door to the youth’
