Taraba Govt. Partners World Bank to halt environmental degradation

As part of efforts to safeguard the environment from further degradation, Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku, has launched a massive planting of trees across the state in partnership with the World Bank.

The State Government said the widespread logging of trees across the state is responsible for deforestation, and more daring consequences might follow if such activities are not addressed.

In the last few years, Taraba State has recorded massive logging of rosewood trees for their economic value. The effect of this is already coming to the fore, with more cases of soil erosion and land degradation.

The state government launched a deliberate campaign to sustain the environment, such as this road walk to create enlightenment to committing a counterpart fund of 1 billion Naira under the World Bank assisted Water Ways and Erosion Management programme.

The Speaker, Taraba State House of Assembly, Joseph Kunini, participated in the symbolic planting of trees to commence afforestation in the state.

He assured of stiffer implementation of environmental laws in the state.

A lecture on how to address environmental degradation challenges in the state was also organised at the Taraba State University, with relevant stakeholders in attendance.
