The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, says the present administration has failed to protect the fundamental rights of citizens following the growing spate of banditry, terrorism, kidnappings, and inflation.

The NANS President, Asefon Sunday, who said this at the inauguration of NANS executive in Abuja on Thursday, warned institutions of learning against the arbitrary increase in school fees, giving the difficulty of some states to pay the N30,000 national minimum wage.

Since its inception in 1956, the leadership of the NANS has remained a body of intellectuals, who not only push for better welfare of students but the ordinary Nigerian.

Today, at the inauguration of a new executive, the story is not different. One of the top expectations from the new NANS executive is to tackle the activities of cultists on various campuses as well as support innovative policies of government meant for youth empowerment.

The new student leadership was also encouraged by some guest speakers to support security agencies with intelligence gathering in the fight against bandits, terrorists, kidnappers, and other forms of criminality.
