The striking Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari, to as a matter of urgency, intercede in its ongoing strike for demands such as allowances and welfare.

JOHESU National Vice Chairman, Ogbonna Chimela, said the President’s intervention, following the impasse at Thursday’s meeting between the union and the officials of the Federal Ministry of Health, would be critical.

Mr Chimela says the President’s intervention would avert a possible collapse of the nation’s health system, especially with the looming threat of Ebola.

He said that following their investigations and discoveries, the President, has not been properly briefed on the state of the health sector.

Mr Chimela said he hoped that Ebola monitoring activities at the airports and borders within the country would not be affected by the ongoing strike by members of JOHESU, who might not be participants.

In a related development, JOHESU National Chairman, Biobebelemoye Josiah, has urged the Nigerian Medical Association to be part of efforts to resolve the strike by the union.
