The National President of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, Muhammed Haruna, says it is regrettable that recruitment into the military and police has been politicised, in spite of obvious inadequate security personnel to tackle the rising spate of insecurity and criminality.

The SSANU President who was reacting to recent abduction and killing of some tertiary institution’s students in Kaduna is calling on the Federal Government to urgently issue licences to trained university security personnel to be able to carry guns, to help tighten security around the campuses.

On agreements reached with the Federal Government which led to the suspension of its  last industrial action, the SSANU President noted that the timeline for implementation of the document expired in April 2021, a development which he said threatens industrial harmony in the universities

The SSANU is among other things calling for equitable distribution of earn allowance released to all university workers by the Federal Government.
